Description

Before we begin modeling and prototyping our designs, we’ll review several foundational concepts that will help us anticipate necessary modifications to our designs, during the engineering and manufacturing phases. By understanding how designs are both made and assembled, we can create better designs from the start.
In under two hours, this course explores the core concepts behind Autodesk Fusion 360 CAD/CAM through a series of lectures and hands on exercises to set you on a path toward success.
This course is designed for those who are new to CAD, or those who are familiar with CAD products such as Tinkercad and Solidworks, but are new to Fusion 360.
After completing this course, students will:
  • Explain and demonstrate Fusion 360 foundational concepts.
  • Understand the Fusion 360 file structure for setting preferences, file import and export, and opening and closing files.
  • Navigate the Fusion 360 user interface and its components, including the Application Bar, Toolbar, ViewCube, and Timeline.
  • Use Fusion 360's parametric modeling and direct editing tools to review bodies and components, and modify designs.
  • Understand the key components of Fusion 360's collaboration tools, including Live Review and project management features.
  • Take part in challenge assignments to put the skills you learn into practice.
Contents and Overview
This course consists of nine lessons that include lectures and hands-on exercises introducing foundational concepts of Fusion 360. Each lesson includes comprehensive lecture presentations and project exercises that include step-by-step video instruction and software datasets, as well as checkpoint quizzes and a final course assessment.
The Fusion 360: Foundational Concepts course starts with lectures that introduce Fusion 360, a cloud based CAD/CAM tool for collaborative product development that combines industrial design, mechanical engineering and machining into one software solution. Whether you are coming to Fusion 360 from Tinkercad, Solidworks, or another CAD package, this series of lectures will guide you through the first steps of learning Fusion 360.
Next, you are introduced to Fusion 360 file structure, starting with data housing, then progressing to file and project management tools, and some of Fusion’s collaboration features. After learning the basics of the file structure and user interface, additional lectures guide you through an introduction to Fusion’s sketch-based parametric modeling and direct editing tools. These tools keep modeling references and links based on how parts are modeled, when features are added, and how they are related to other faces/features. The course then introduces Fusion 360’s collaboration tools such as Live Review and A360 Team. These collaboration features that allow for easy project review, keeping track of versions, and viewing the work of others through a live activity feed.
After you’ve completed the series of lectures, you can take part in three challenge assignments that put the skills you’ve learned into practice. Upon completing this course, you will have obtained knowledge and skills in Fusion 360 CAD/CAM to set you on the path to success in your design process.
